What makes a civilization?

Ancient Myths and Lost Civilizations

Throughout the world ancient myths speak of remote golden  ages and epochs where gods mingled among people and Kings "descended" directly from heaven. Each culture's legends, including the mythic tales of India to the Zep Tepi of Ancient Egyptian Mythology  speak of similar golden epochs, lost civilizations such as Atlantis, Mu, and Lemuria, perishing in great natural floods, wiped from the Earth. Recent science reveals that post Ice Age global melting may have fueled the inspiration for such myths 8000 years ago (see this page for info about cataclysms and Ice Age geology).

Ancient Climatology

New geological studies and extracted drill cores in places like the Mediterranean, reveal the past geographical environment that existed at the end of the last Ice Age, 8 000 years ago. Over 25 million square kilometers of primarily warm habitable dry land lay exposed above sea level, and became inundated, in a series of sudden catastrophic global floods. Ice Dams that held back large glacial lakes burst open, sending a volume of water the size of lake Ontario into the ocean in a matter of days. One of Graham Hancock's best books, Underworld: The Mysterious Origins of Civilization, explores the climatic upheavals occurring during that period.
